Listening to God
It’s important to listen to what God tells you. Sometimes it’s something simple like, “turn off that TV show, it’s not okay.”
I didn’t listen to God tonight. I watched a show. God said I shouldn’t. I kept watching it. The thing is it wasn’t an inherently bad show. It mentioned suicide, swearing, mentions of sex. But I am sensitive. At the end, a character died and it was a gruesome death. That’s what bothered me. That’s why I should have listened.
Sometimes we think we know better than God. Like I did with that show, I thought, it’s okay, I’ll be fine. At the end I felt sick. To make myself feel better I tried to watch a different show. This show ended up having a weird sex scene so I had to turn that off.
We don’t know everything. God does. It’s easy to do what we think is right but what’s important is listening to God. Sometimes it’s a small feeling, the spirit gently leading you.
It’s important to read your bible and pray as well. God is always speaking to us. He cares about us. He doesn’t tell us things to bum us out. He’s protecting us. He was trying to protect my heart and protect me from being in pain. I didn’t listen and I ended up hurt.
God is a gentle parent to me. But to my husband he is a little more harsh. My husband needs blunt answers and that’s what God gives him. I need a gentle hand and that’s what God does for me.
We are all different and God accommodates for us all. Look at how God speaks to you. How does God answer you? Have you been listening lately or have you been doing all the talking?
God is your friend, he is also a dad. He’s everything you need.
Today take time to listen to God. If he uses the Holy Spirit to lead you, listen. Don’t get hurt like I did today.
