Choices
Everyday we’re bombarded with choices. What to eat, wear and do. Some choices come easily but what about the choices that don’t? How do you know if you’re doing what’s best?
Obviously, it depends on you. Everyone is different so what is good for your family member may not be whats good for you. God has given us freedom of choice so we can be ourselves. It’s okay that you are different than your friends and family. It’s okay to stand out. You are not weird or abnormal. You are perfect the way God has made you.
You have to make the choices that are best for you. Sometimes that means you have to take in account of your spouse or kids as well, but guess what you don’t have to take in what your mom says or your neighbor. You are not on a set timeline where you have to have kids, spouse and a dog. You don’t have to get your degree in the designated 4 year time slot. You can take a break.
You see free will set in motion in Genesis 3 when the forbidden fruit was eaten. That’s kind of a sad story since that’s where sin came into existence. But what about the rich man who asked Jesus how to get eternal life. Jesus said do not murder, steal or commit adultery but also told him to do something else too.
Matthew 10:21, “Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. ‘There is still one thing you haven’t done,’ he told him. ‘Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.”
He chose what he wanted to chose. Following God can be hard. Making good choices can be hard. Jesus never said this life would be easy. But he did send the holy spirit down to help us with our choices. Prayer can help us with our choices, reading our bibles and getting in community as well.
We’re not always going to make the right choice and that’s okay. God knows we are not perfect. He has given us his grace. It’s your time to accept his grace.
