Hate Thanksgiving? Read this
We see the happy family in the movies and TV shows and think wow, I wish my thanksgiving could look like that.
Holidays can be hard if you have an unconventional family or situation. But even in the midst of trauma and bad memories, we can still make the best of the holiday. We don’t have to go on hating the holidays.
It’s typical to think of all the things we’re thankful for on thanksgiving, hence the “thank” part. So we can practice gratitude. Gratitude changes everything.
You can go from hating your life to actually enjoying getting up in the morning.
Sometimes you have to look up from the past and see what can lie ahead in the future. It’s okay to let go. It’s time to decide if you want to heal from it.
Healing is a decision. It can hurt at first to think of all the memories or break through the walls but in the end it’s worth it to feel better.
One of my favorite verses is Philippians 4:6.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with THANKSGIVING, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Giving thanks is like praising God, so maybe if we think of worship then we won’t hate thanksgiving anymore.
What does this verse say? Do not be anxious. How do we do that? By presenting it to God. By leaving it at his feet. If we don’t leave it at his feet then we’re stuck carrying it around. That is not fun. It’s heavy and it’s hard.
When you lay it down, God’s peace will envelope you. His peace is like no other. You will be protected, your heart and your mind, by Jesus. This year has been hard. We all could use some protection. I wouldn’t want to be protected by anyone else.
Put your trust in him this thanksgiving. You won’t regret it!!
