Love and Marriage, Love and Marriage
Have you ever thought about marriage and heaven? Do these two collide?
My mom always told me we wouldn’t be married in heaven.
“We won’t have any earthly desires,” she would say.
When you’re in a relationship it’s normal to think about the eternal side of it. If you’ve grown in a Christian environment then you have probably heard the story the Sadducees ask Jesus about that talk of the seven brothers and one wife (Luke 20: 27-40).
In short they are asking about resurrection (the Sadducees don’t believe in resurrection) and marriage. They ask if a woman becomes widowed without children and she marries the brother and becomes widowed again, who will be her husband when she is resurrected?
Jesus answers, “When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.” (Mark 12:25).
You see, angels are completely different beings than humans. They neither marry or have intimate relations. They do have a relationship with God obviously.
So when we die we will still see the ones we love but we won’t be married. There will be no more need for hunger or tears or sexual desires because we will be fulfilled by God and his presence.
If you’ve been heartbroken by the notion that you won’t be with the love of your life in heaven then you need to reconsider who the love of your life is.
Is Jesus the love your life? Are you allowing him to fulfill you?
The purpose of your life is not to be married or to have a boyfriend or girlfriend.
Your purpose is to love God and when you love God you want to follow his commandments such as the most important of them all, love God and love each other! (Matthew 22: 36-40)
