Sensitivity is a gift

This day and age it’s easy to harden your heart and block out people and pain. It’s the easiest thing in the world to hold onto your brokenness and bitterness. It’s hard to forgive, to open up and say what is going on.

Being sensitive and being open does not make you weak. Sensitivity is needed today. People need people who are willing to be there for them, to cry with them and listen to them.

Jesus didn’t hang out with the people who had their lives *together*. He hung out with people who were visibly and socially messy. He hung out with tax collectors, prostitutes, homeless people, lepers, women and men who were outcasted, these were the ones who Jesus had a sensitive heart toward.

Jesus didn’t close off his heart to the teachers of the law who tried and succeeded in killing him either. Jesus loved everyone.

I’d like to think that Jesus was a good communicator as well. He told people what was on his heart and on his mind. He didn’t stray from correction or from speaking truth.

We have a lot to learn from Jesus.

If you have a sensitive heart and it feels like you keep getting attacked again and again, don’t shut it out. Don’t harden your heart. Forgive, and have hope. When we get disappointed it’s easy to lower our expectations but don’t do that. Keep them up.

The best way to grow in these types of situations is to one see what is hurting you, forgive where forgiveness is needed and continually talk to God about it. He answers and he will tell you what to do.

Being sensitive means you’re willing to love and forgive and grow. Don’t let bitterness and grudges take hold of your heart. That’s one way to kill sensitivity.

You are beautiful and you are worthy. You are enough as you are and it’s okay to feel broken, it’s what you do with it in the end that either heals you or kills you. It’s up to you to choose.
