when depression hits
Recently, feelings of depression have hit me hard. There are a lot of different views on depression and anxiety. If people have told you that what you’re dealing with is not real or that you should think happy thoughts instead you are seen. I hear you. It is very hurtful to be told what you’re dealing with is not valid. God sees you and he hears your heart too. Anxiety and depression are a lot to deal with. It is hard to do things when you are experiencing symptoms of them. I wish I could tell you there was an instant fix to all to these illnesses. As a Christian…

Choices
Everyday we’re bombarded with choices. What to eat, wear and do. Some choices come easily but what about the choices that don’t? How do you know if you’re doing what’s best? Obviously, it depends on you. Everyone is different so what is good for your family member may not be whats good for you. God has given us freedom of choice so we can be ourselves. It’s okay that you are different than your friends and family. It’s okay to stand out. You are not weird or abnormal. You are perfect the way God has made you. You have to make the choices that are best for you. Sometimes that…

New Beginnings
Do you ever want to start over again? Sometimes we all wish for a redo button to appear in front of us. But we’ve all heard those negative people saying there are no second chances! Says who? That’s my question because guess what? Everyday is the chance to start a new. You can restart your mindset, your goals, your food choices and attitude. It’s never too late to start again. You may be asking how can that be? Maybe you haven’t had second chances before in your life. There are a lot of jobs and schools who lack that sort of grace but let me tell you, my God is…

The provision of God
It can be hard to lean on God when we don’t know where we’re being led. Has God ever told you to do something and you did it? How did it feel? When something went a wry did you rely on God to provide a way or were you scared or doubting? All of those emotions are normal. I’ve come to learn that if God asked you do something, he will provide a way for you to do it. One of my own experiences was when God asked me to move out of my parents house. Depending on where you live or your family’s beliefs you might think 20 was…

Tylenol for the heartache
Growing up my mom gave me Tylenol for everything. My head hurt? Tylenol. My knee hurt? Tylenol. Everything was fixed with Tylenol. Are there places in your life where you wish you could just take Tylenol to rid yourself of the pain for a little while? The last few days I’ve felt a lot of emotion. A lot of hurt, fear and sadness. So I thought, as I was up at 3 am crying, “I wish I could take Tylenol to make my heartache go away.” There are tools to use to make heartache fade. The type of heartache I’m talking about is a deep, deep sadness. The type you…

The Power of Patience
Waiting can be a pain. Waiting in long lines, waiting for a season to end and a new one to start, that is the worst pain. If you’re like me, you’re waiting for something to happen. It’s like the world has stood still and it feels like there’s nothing I can do. I’m tired of all the waiting. Even though I am tired I am still trusting. I am trusting God because I know he doesn’t make us wait for nothing. I heard a sermon once that said if you don’t write down the lessons you’ve learned while in the waiting season, you will forget the lessons. Then you’ll have…

LET’S FIND JOY
It has been a crazy crazy past few months. Life has been challenging and unforgiving. I feel like I should be talking about depression and the deep sadness I’ve felt recently, BUT God wants to talk about JOY! It’s totally understandable to feel sadness. The sadness and depression you have been experiencing for almost year are totally valid. The causes for those feelings are real and you are seen in this time by a God who knows how you are feeling and is here to comfort you. It’s also totally okay to lean into goodness and seek kindness and something full of light. Today is the day the Lord has…

The Power of Marriage
If you are engaged or married or just dating, maybe you are thinking about how marriage affects your relationship with your partner. Obviously everyone is different and each relationship is unique, but some key things happen when you are married. When you get married it is a covenant with God, you, and your spouse. There are many physical bonds that occur but spiritual bonds as well. There is a shift in the atmosphere that occurs when you get married. When you promise before God to be together through the thick and thin, you become united spiritually. Physical bonds are also going to occur especially if you and your spouse waited…

Where’s my blessings?
Recently, I’ve been talking a lot about trusting God through the hard times. I’ve said it’s important to fight for your life and love. Which is true, but maybe you’re just plain tired. Maybe you’re at the end of yourself and you’re thinking, “Where is my blessing at?” “I’m a good person.” “I’ve done everything right.” “Why is everything going wrong?” Is that you? Are you scared and hungry for more, more goodness, more sweetness. Something that is easy to catch. I’ve been listening to Elevation church’s Holly and Steven Furtick. If you haven’t listened to their sermons about favor you HAVE to listen to them. Anyway, Holly talked about…

Finding grace for yourself
Sometimes the biggest bully we face is ourself. No one keeps a better record of what we’ve done wrong than us. We push ourselves and demean ourselves, but shouldn’t we be the kindest? We alone know what we’ve been through. We know the hurts and the hells we’ve faced. So why is it so hard to forgive ourselves? I don’t have the answer but I know we can ask God to give us grace for ourselves. Looking to what Jesus taught, he said to love your neighbor as you love yourself. Most of the time I find it easier to love my neighbor more than me. If God created me…
