when depression hits
Recently, feelings of depression have hit me hard. There are a lot of different views on depression and anxiety. If people have told you that what you’re dealing with is not real or that you should think happy thoughts instead you are seen. I hear you. It is very hurtful to be told what you’re dealing with is not valid. God sees you and he hears your heart too.
Anxiety and depression are a lot to deal with. It is hard to do things when you are experiencing symptoms of them. I wish I could tell you there was an instant fix to all to these illnesses. As a Christian I believe God can heal us and bring us peace, but sometimes we aren’t given that instant miracle. It’s frustrating and irritating but I know God loves me and he has given me a smart mind and heart to use.
So if you’re dealing with anxiety and depression here are some things you can add to your routine when facing the symptoms of anxiety and depression. When i’ve had anxiety attacks, most of them have been when i’ve been by myself in my room so I am able to put on some worship music and sing a long with them. When I’ve been in public it is difficult to do this so you could go to the restroom or outside or to your car to do this. Talking to a friend or significant other is helpful too.
Worship has been the #1 weapon I use when dealing with these symptoms. It’s helped me when I couldn’t dare to move my limbs because of how emotionally drained and sad I was. Thinking about a pet or person you love can help motivate you too.
Looking back on my past I have realized a lot of things I used to do that were signs of anxiety. Sometimes you have to grieve for your younger self and the trauma you’ve been through. It’s probably the hardest thing that you can do, but seeking healing for any trauma or past hurts that may have caused you to have anxiety or depression is critical. Whether you speak to God (I highly recommend having quiet time and seeking healing in your heart and mind in the arms of the Father), a therapist, a pastor, a teacher or counselor, or friend, it will be beneficial to your soul.
There are also medicines you can take that are prescribed that help with these symptoms. There is nothing wrong with taking medication to help take care of yourself.
Jesus felt every range of emotion that we experience on the earth. So if you feel alone know that you are never alone. You might say, “I doubt Jesus ever had anxiety!” Probably so, but he was 100% human along with being 100% God. When Jesus was praying by himself in the garden he asked that God would take this cup from him! That would be the time I would have anxiety if I knew I was soon to be arrested and hung on a cross. The soldiers didn’t take him directly to the cross either. Jesus was beat and ridiculed. He probably felt a lot of bad emotions. He didn’t hate anyone but I assume he was devastated.
Please know if you are dealing with some hard things right now that you are not alone. It might sound cliche but it’s true. If you need any prayer please email me at jadenpratt1999@gmail.com. I am here for you. God has never let go of you.
